Acquaviva Red Onion
Excellent in the salad, very handy in the kitchen, the red onion of Acquaviva delle Fonti (Puglia region), a Slow Food product, is renowned for its bold flavor and sweetness.
From the early 19th century, the farmers from Acquaviva grow these onions with the typical oblate shape large discs 2-3 cm thick and up to a span wide, weighing roughly 500 grams.
The color ranges from carmine to violet, getting completely white towards the core. The cultivation is done in accordance with tradition using nature-friendly methods.
