Ovuli are among the best mushrooms on the planet, a true gift of nature, they have a delicate and extraordinary flavor. Picked up when they are still young, the bright orange hat emerges from the white sarcophagus and looks like hatching eggs.
Its delicacy led the ancient Romans to define it "food of the gods" and to protect the woods in which it reproduced to preserve it and make it grow back spontaneously.
The Ovulo grows in summer and autumn, preferring sunny areas and limestone soil; it can be found in chestnut, oak and hazel woods. It grows in areas with a temperate climate, with hot and dry summers and grows up to an altitude of 900 meters. Widespread in southern Italy, it becomes rarer towards the north even if it can be found in the right areas.
