Rosy colored with a straight-fronted head, Red Mullets aren’t really mullets at all. No matter, you’ll enjoy their mild, unique, firmly textured pink flesh, which is similar in flavor to Orange Roughy, Sea Bass and Ocean Perch.
Red Mullets have been held in high regard for centuries. In fact, they were often included in the writings of the ancient Romans, and were cultivated along the Nile River in the days of the pharaohs.
Mullet is extra lean in saturated fat and low in sodium. It is an excellent source of Iron, and a good source of Calcium.
Deep fry Red Mullet whole, and serve with sliced lemons for a real treat. You may also, bake or pan-fry it, complimented with delicate herbs like parsley and thyme. Adding a splash of red wine is nice, as well! This Red Mullet fish is best served whole.
